the difference between a Japanese sword and a Western sword
Konnichiwa! Hallo everyone!
This time, I will write about "the difference between a Japanese sword and a Western sword".
What is the difference between a Japanese sword and a Western sword in the first place???
The biggest difference is that the Western sword is double-edged, while the Japanese sword is single-edged.
However, there was a double-edged era before the Japanese sword became its current shape. It was a long time ago, in the Kofun period(250-538AD), double-edged and single-edged were mixed.
At that time, the single-edged sword was a "straight sword" unlike the current Japanese sword.
The reason why it became the current form was when Sakanoue Tamura Maro went to battle with Ezo and learned the power of the warped sword used there.
On the other hand, unlike Japanese swords, Western swords are generally straight.
There are various ways to make it, such as pouring molten iron, heating and stretching steel, or a combination of the two.
Speaking of Japanese swords, the beautiful curved shape and sharpness come to mind.
The process is complicated and unusual, and some have already been lost.
"Tamahagane" itself, which is used as a raw material for Japanese swords, can only be made by a manufacturing method called "Tatara Steelmaking", which has not been fully elucidated yet. It is unique to Japanese swords that it can only be made through such a complicated process.
The point to appreciate Japanese swords is
1. The shape of the whole sword
2. Hamon: A pattern like a white wave
3. Jigane: A pattern like a plate
That's it.
What surprised me most was the second Hamon.
Not only does it look beautiful, but it also has the effect of making the iron harder and stronger by applying the burnt blade soil.
When the soil is dry, bake it. By heating the sword and cooling it all at once, a warped sword is created, which is the most important process that affects the quality of the sword.
Also, first of all, it is made after greeting God, and when choosing Tamahagane, it is compatible with craftsmen.
I think those parts are definitely different from the Western sword.
And the process of making. There is a process called "Tanren" where you shake an 8kg mallet for 8 hours and keep hitting the iron, but even a person with a solid body is really hard.
Craftsman can put their "soul" in every swing. The "Japanese sword" is brought to life through a number of processes.
Some of the people who purchased Tamahagane products from our store said, "I feel tremendous power from Tamahagane."
The Japanese sword is not just a weapon, but a symbol of "spirituality" that contains something like the power of God.
I think that you could feel such things and the power of the stone language of magnetite.
Please use it as a gift!
